In a world where digital banking is becoming the norm, the need to protect our elderly community members from online scams has never been more pressing. Recently, Brand Contact Consultants teamed up with Standard Bank to launch a digital fraud awareness campaign that reached thousands of seniors across Gauteng, the Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal.
Reaching Hearts and Minds: A Nationwide Initiative
This campaign wasn’t just about numbers; it was about making a real difference in the lives of older adults. By visiting retirement villages and senior communities, Brand Contact and Standard Bank created a welcoming space where seniors could learn in a comfortable, supportive environment.
Interactive Learning and Engaging Formats
One of the standout features was the format itself. The team set up information walls within the old-age homes, allowing the elderly to explore at their own pace, absorb key tips, and revisit the material as needed. There were also interactive games and engaging activities that made the learning process enjoyable. Plus, attendees received practical leave-behinds – like calendars and fridge magnets – so they could have friendly reminders of what they learned.
To make the sessions even more inviting, the campaign included a small tea party with refreshments. This touch of hospitality encouraged the elderly to relax, chat, and open up to the facilitators, making the entire experience more pleasant and memorable.
Celebrating Success: A Model for Future Initiatives
By the end of the campaign, more than 1 000 elderly South Africans were better informed and more confident about their digital safety. This campaign stands as a testament to what’s possible when banks partner with agencies that don’t just think creatively, but offer practical, human-centred solutions to real-world challenges. It’s a model that demonstrates how the right collaboration can drive meaningful education and protection – ensuring that no one is left behind in the digital age.
